Caravaggio and modernity

The paintings of Roberto Longhi Foundation
On the fourth anniversary of the death of Caravaggio will be on display in a process that will unfold from Palazzo Pitti, the Uffizi in Villa Bardini, a parade of masterpieces by Caravaggio of Caravaggio and who renewed early seventeenth century painting and iconography sacred and profane.
After decades of new scientific research, discoveries, historical responsibilities and acquisitions, the Florentine Museums proposes, by Gianni Papi, a new journey into the world of Caravaggio Caravaggio and international, presenting an overview of works, a sort of digression to explore artistic innovations of the early decades of the seventeenth century, linked to naturalism and representation of everyday reality, made through pictorial means of light and shadow.

In celebrating Caravaggio has also paid homage to him that before anyone else has discovered and made known the greatness Roberto Longhi. Will be staged at Villa Bardini, indeed, a curated exhibition by Mina Gregori, Caravaggio and modernity. The paintings of Longhi Foundation, which will display the pictures that the great historian of art acquired during his life, from the Boy Bitten by Lizard of Caravaggio's paintings of his early followers.
